While today Sunkist is a mega-brand, there was a period of time where they were growing more oranges than their customers were eating. They actually had to start cutting orange trees down. They ended up hiring an advertising genius named Albert Lasker who introduced American's to the idea of "orange juice". He patented an orange juice extractor, sold it for .10 cents a piece and American's started buying oranges in droves. The campaign name? Drink and Orange. It's a concept that is anything but new to us today, but back then it made for killer copywriting.

To begin with, sales letter is a marketing strategy often employed by businesses that do not have the budget to advertise their product / service through television or other means.  They are also used by certain organisations whose mode of operation is specifically through mail order only. A certain number of companies use these to inform their loyal customers about special offers and discounts. While most firms use ordinary mail to communicate, many use electronic mail. A sales paper mail is different from electronic one both in presentation and format. The latter one will be more graphical and the former one will be more textual. There is, however no hard and fast rule and one can stick to a certain format which works best for the business. But that format should always contain Four Essentials to make a sales letter work.
I am a little biased here because I have worked with them in the past, but The Hustle does a lot of things from a copy standpoint really well. My personal favorite is their email opt-in page –– "Your smart, good looking friend that sends you an email each morning with all the tech and business new you need to know for the day." They have expertly created a trusted and personable brand through conversational copy.
I've led marketing teams as a senior executive for multiple brands, and I've transitioned these companies from a traditional-only or low-digital marketing strategy to a data-driven, performance-based strategy. I've developed and implemented multi-channel campaigns that include email, online advertising, social media (paid and earned), SEO, CRO and traditional channels like direct mail, public relations and events/trade shows.

That’s how I got my start 11 years ago. One of those Warrior Forum clients was worth at least $50,000 to me over the years. I’ve since moved on and began studying with Jon Benson – the pioneer of the video sales letter. I took a training with him that cost me $20,000 and I got certified in his method of VSL creation. I now specialize in direct response VSLs, and that’s what most people come to me for.

There is a lot of magic in Basecamp's landing page. While the headline is money, what I love most is the email opt-in. What makes this killer copywriting? "Join the 4,088 businesses that signed up last week", say's you're not alone and a lot of people have tried us and like us. "Start a free 30-day trial", says there's absolutely no risk in giving us a try.
The headline of the sales letter needs to get the reader’s attention. Its job is to make them want to know more (and actually read the rest). The secret? Be sure the headline makes a specific promise that relates to your prospects’ needs or interests. If, for instance, you offer domestic cleaning services, don’t use a headline such as “Want Cleaning Services?” in your letter. Instead use something such as, “Your Whole House Sparkling Clean—We Do It for You so You Don’t Have To!”
Tip #9 – Cultivate discipline as a daily practice. If you rely solely on passion and motivation, you’re screwed. You need to have the thick skin of a professional and be able to get things done even when you don’t want to or don’t feel like it. Read the book: The War Of Art by Steven Pressfield. It’s a quick read, but it will give you a framework on how to think about getting your work done.

This is just one example of how each one of the digital marketing tactics works together to help you achieve one of your digital marketing goals. As you work to build an integrated marketing strategy, it’s important that you ensure that your messaging is consistent across platforms. Whether you’re creating new site pages or firing up a few Twitter posts, you should use the same brand voice and tone to help create a more seamless experience for your target audience.

Lots of businesses leverage digital channels such as Google search, social media, email, online advertising and their websites to connect with their current and prospective customers. Many companies focus on online (or digital) channels over offline marketing tactics because it allows them to reach their ideal target audience where they're already spending most of their time: online.

It is worth it to know that your digital marketing strategy is not complete with online digital marketing alone. You should consider and implement some types of offline marketing to reach your goals. Enhanced offline marketing is offline marketing that uses electronic devices to boost the user experience. An example of this is a restaurant that lets customers put in their order with electronic tablets.
Now we’re into the body of the sales letter. You need to tell your prospective customers what you’re offering them first. The trick is that you have to make them want your product or service. So think like a prospective customer or client when you’re writing this section of your letter and answer the question “What’s in it for me?” In other words, what are the benefits to the customer of making this purchase?

Did you know that 69% of the time spent online (in the US) was done using a mobile phone? Desktop usage is only less than 50% of the whole user online activity. And mind you, US is not the biggest user in mobile which means other countries spend more time online using their smartphones. That is exactly why it is important for a business owner like you to optimize your digital content, most especially your website for mobile usage. Because that’s where the consumers are.

However, the appearance of your site is not the only thing that matters. Since your website is the center of many of your digital marketing campaigns, it’s important that it is designed and optimized for conversions. This means creating a site that is easy to navigate and read with clear guidance for the next steps consumers need to take to move further down the funnel. This also means creating a site that optimized for mobile devices to improve the mobile user’s site experience.

You’ve asked your reader once. and you hope they're thinking about it. Add a P.S. to your sales letter to light a fire under your customer and get them to act right now. Use a carrot such as throwing in an additional bonus (“If you act right now, you’ll also receive…."), or a stick, such as reminding the customer that quantities are limited or the pricing will only last for a certain period of time (set a date).
You may be wondering, why should I pay for ads when I’m already working to improve my site’s SEO? Though search engine optimization is important, it takes a long time to start working its magic. That’s where PPC ads come in handy. PPC ads can help you see results more quickly by putting your site at the top of the search engine results page for relevant search terms. By appearing on the first page of the SERP, your business gains new visibility and searchers are more likely to find and click on your site.

Sales letters serve an important purpose of increasing the customer base of your company. They are an important constituent of any form of business writing. Most people tend to find it a cumbersome task because it can be difficult trying to praise a product without sounding like a braggart. It is actually not that tough if you can objectively list out the benefits of the product you are offering, and the gains that the client will garner. In order to do so, it is always better to take a look at examples that will prove to be a guideline for you.
There are a number of different digital technologies that marketers and companies use to get their marketing message to their target audience. In addition to their website, a company might also use PPC and display ads, email marketing, mobile technology like smartphones, social media, and other mediums to attract and engage their target consumers. (But more on that in the next section!)
Setting the letter aside for some time will allow you to be more objective about it when it’s time to check and edit. Right after you’ve written the letter, reading it over and over again won’t be too productive. But after you’ve left it for some time, this would give you a clearer eye and a fresher perspective which, in turn, makes it easier for you to spot mistakes.
