These are tactics you pay for. They’ll only work when you spend money with the company or platform that controls them. For example, if you want to place a banner ad at the top of a website that’s popular with your target customers, you’ll need to pay to rent that space. Think of billboards as the non-digital equivalent in terms of payment structure.
Search engine optimization (SEO) is the practice of optimizing your website and its content to increase your chances of appearing in search engine results pages. The closer to the top of those pages you are, the more organic traffic your website is likely to receive, so SEO is often a top priority for digital marketers who don’t want to rely on ads. SEO and content marketing go hand in hand and an effective content marketing strategy always considers SEO.
The communication channel of choice for most businesspeople and used by the majority of internet users, email is a powerful tool you can leverage to reach members of your audience directly. Traditionally, email has gotten a bad rap for being spammy and promotional. However, by taking an inbound approach to email, you can use email to deliver helpful, personalized, and targeted content to your prospects which they'll be pleased to received.
2. Peer Reviews will Be Even More Important. “A recent consumer report from Edelman found 77% of consumers surveyed say peer reviews are either deal-breakers or deciding factors in their brand-buying decisions,” says Filimonova. “As B2B marketers look to mirror the B2C approach in 2020 and attract high-paying enterprise clients, trust becomes increasingly important – from both the peer-to-peer network perspective and the growing influencer demographic.”
Tip #10 – Once you’ve paid your dues and you can actually write something that makes your clients money, make sure you attend the most popular marketing seminars. Anything by Dan Kennedy is a winner. Traffic and Conversion summit is another one. And read a book or two on how to network. Going there without knowing how to network will be a waste of your time. Start with: Never Eat Alone by Keith Ferrazzi. That book changed my life.

I've led marketing teams as a senior executive for multiple brands, and I've transitioned these companies from a traditional-only or low-digital marketing strategy to a data-driven, performance-based strategy. I've developed and implemented multi-channel campaigns that include email, online advertising, social media (paid and earned), SEO, CRO and traditional channels like direct mail, public relations and events/trade shows.
Buying behavior has drastically changed over the past decade, and now more consumers are starting (and often ending) their buyer’s journey online, virtually showing the effectiveness of how digital marketing works. This shift in the way that consumers make purchasing decisions and buy products and services has made digital marketing a must for any business that’s trying to compete in the modern marketplace, regardless of size or industry.
You’re going to get exposed to TONS of brands. And some of these brands sell in excess of $100,000,000/year of just a single line of products. Even if you’re dealing with something trivial as laundry detergent, you’re still dealing with enormous sums of money! This is a great thing. That’s because when you’re dealing with that much money, people are VERY CAREFUL with making moves.
A lot of the good stuff mentioned before is also bad. For example when you’re dealing with a client whose making $100,000,000/year from a product line, they’re going to want SOLID PROOF that your changes in marketing will work. They don’t want you making changes all willy-nilly since something like a small 5% drop in sale equates to a loss of over $5,000,000!

Social media’s ROI can be indirect at times. But a Forbes study found that companies using social media outsell 78% of businesses who don’t use social media. IBM found that a lead that comes in through social media is 7X more likely to become a paying customer. More likely to convert also means you’re spending less money trying to convert people who will never become paying customers.
Influencer marketing is popular on social media channels like Instagram and Snapchat. Companies hire Instagrammers with large followings to promote their brand by posting one or more photos with the product. Companies now engage in Instagram or Snapchat “takeovers” where the hired influence controls the company’s social media platform for a given amount of time, most often a day. These social media takeovers drive the influencer’s following to your social media channels increasing your new followers and unique views.
