The insistence of local journalists to maintain professional boundaries results from the ideology of professionalism that has permeated throughout China’s journalism education and practice since the reform and opening-up policy. Such insistence also manifests the responsive identification of these journalists under the context in which the journalistic profession is increasingly declining (Donsbach, 2010).
In light of the advanced international conception for e-learning translation instruction and the development of professional translation education in China, it is proposed that an e-learning platform conceived with knowledge systems be constructed. The new platform aims at utilizing advantages and characteristics of the online instruction, and at the same time categorizing instructive resources leading to knowledge service systems. This advantageous e-learning environment is featured with a collection of electronic resources of translation technology, instructive resources and interactive communication forums.

As national policy is further loosened, the Chinese media have begun exploring diversified modes of business operation. In 1996, the Guangzhou Daily Newspaper Group announced its foundation, thereby unfolding the prelude of conglomeration of Chinese media. However, the process of conglomeration accelerated significantly only during the turn of the millennium, which has also benefited from the promulgation of a series of polices.

Previous studies on the influence of media convergence in China either took a market- or norm-oriented approach. From a news production perspective, the current study analyses the interaction between the top-down design and bottom-up practices of journalists to disclose the influence of the dominant path of media convergence within the press industry of Fujian Province. A survey and 20 in-depth interviews show that the current media convergence practices of Fujian’s press industry fail to receive the support of journalists because of institutional, organisational and individual complexities, rather than technological reasons. This study discusses the implications of this finding for media convergence in China.


After the Chongzhen Emperor's death, loyalist forces proclaimed a Southern Ming dynasty in Nanjing, naming Zhu Yousong (the Prince of Fu) as the Hongguang Emperor. In 1645, however, Qing armies started to move against the Ming remnants. The Southern Ming, again bogged down by factional infighting, were unable to hold back the Qing onslaught, and Nanjing surrendered on 8 June 1645. Zhu Yousong was captured on 15 June and brought to Beijing, where he died the following year. The dwindling Southern Ming were continually pushed farther south, and the last emperor of the Southern Ming, Zhu Youlang, was finally caught in Burma, transported to Yunnan, and executed in 1662 by Wu Sangui.

The survey (see Table 2) indicates that from the viewpoint of local journalists in Fujian, new media has generally expanded the sources of news and facilitated contact with news-related groups. However, new media has also raised considerably high requirements for journalists’ expertise and spawned fierce peer competitions. Moreover, the respondents relatively agreed with the influences of new media in terms of enhancing journalists’ knowledge about the audience, although they disagreed with the belief that new media has marginalised news gathering and editing. The respondents took relatively positive attitudes towards the overall influences of new media on news production.

However, the official belief of ‘sole responsibility for one’s own profits or losses’ that has been established since the marketisation of Chinese media industries made it impossible for the Fujian press industry to gain sustainable financial investments from the state. Hence, the present objective of media convergence has been to explore new pathways towards profitability. To date, only a few new media outlets in the Fujian press industry have garnered gains. This ‘adventitious feebleness’ in profitability is deemed by local journalists as a consequence of the ‘congenital deficiency’ in content as exacerbated by the censorship system.
Indeed, we find that C9ORF72 and these sporadic ALS iMNs share defects in autophagosome formation and the aberrant accumulation of glutamate receptors. We find that an engineered, anticoagulation-deficient form of activated protein C called 3K3A-APC, but not heat-inactivated 3K3A-APC (inactive 3K3A-APC), can restore autophagosome formation in both C9ORF72 ALS/FTD and sporadic ALS iMNs. Interestingly, 3K3A-APC also normalizes glutamate receptor levels in C9ORF72 and sporadic ALS iMNs. As a result of these activities, 3K3A-APC lowers dipeptide-repeat protein (DPR) levels in C9ORF72 ALS/FTD iMNs, and potently restores nuclear TDP-43 localization and the normal survival of both C9ORF72 and sporadic ALS iMNs. We show that the ability of 3K3A-APC to rescue ALS iMN survival is dependent on its ability to activate protease-activated receptor 1 (PAR1), identifying PAR1 as a therapeutic target for both C9ORF72 and sporadic ALS. Importantly, 3K3A-APC also rescues glutamate receptor levels and proteostasis impairments in vivo. Thus, motor neurons from C9ORF72 and at least a subset of sporadic ALS patients share common defects in autophagosome formation and glutamate receptor homeostasis, and pharmacologic rescue of these defects by PAR1 activation may slow or prevent neurodegeneration in a substantial fraction of ALS cases.
